The Dishonorable Woman With The Most Honorable Gift

Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.” – Matthew‬ ‭26:13‬

In the events leading to Jesus’ death, He went to Bethany and visited the home of Simon the Leper with his disciples. While there, a woman brought an expensive perfume worth a year’s wages and poured it on Jesus’ head while dining with His disciples. The disciples were more concerned about the worth of the perfume. She is rebuked for being wasteful because the perfume could be sold and the money given to the poor. She was chastised because what could have been spent in a year, was spent in an instant!

Jesus went ahead to correct the disciples’ thinking as He knew what the woman had done. What the woman did, is to prepare Jesus for burial.

The woman showed an act of love and worship by giving her all without holding back. This is what God wants from us, an unwavering surrender and total dependence on Him.

What are you giving him?

Jesus gave His all when He had to leave His Heavenly Throne onto earth to die a gruesome death on the cross for our sin. We should be willing to do the same, give Him our all!

Jesus went on to commend the woman for an honorable job done and how her act of God’s love would be talked about in the world. The woman knew Jesus was worth more than all the expensive perfume in the world.

My Last words

The death of Jesus is earth-shattering and poignantly personal as it teaches us to search our hearts. Let Jesus in on every aspect of your life. Invite Him into your life, He is a perfect gentleman and doesn’t force Himself upon people. Ask Him to forgive you for all your sins and to help renew your heart.

The Salvation Prayer (by Dr. Ray Pritchard)

Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.
